THERAPY AND COUNSELING

To support students with their academic, psycho-educational, and social-emotional goals, our counselors and speech, occupational, and physical therapists use their extensive training in learning disabilities and disorders to address issues from physical assistance to helping calm behavior issues.

Our counselors and speech, occupational, and physical therapists work with students in Shoshoni schools who have disabilities that limit how they move and function in their daily activities. Their work helps increase the students’ quality of life. They evaluate the student’s strengths and weaknesses and work with each one, along with parents and teachers, to develop strategies and skills that help students reach their full potential.

All providers attend PLC meetings with other providers to utilize the best research based practices with the students they serve. They use a comprehensive approach to evaluate and assess a child's individual needs in his/her education environment; collaborate with students, parents, and other school staff; and provide treatment, consultation, and environmental modifications for students to reach their full potential. The additional support they provide is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student.

All services provided by our specialists are intended to maximize the educational outcomes of the students who receive them. All providers have opportunities to attend national conferences or state conferences as they are related to their fields. Our counselors and speech, occupational, and physical therapists work together to create a response to early intervention programs in the lower elementary grades, to help ensure educational success. All decisions regarding eligibility and services for special education will be decided by the IEP team as a whole.
