Benefits

Even though this is not a new concept, there are many reasons that Peer Coaching can benefit teachers. The teachers can: 1-improve on their "wait time" as they ask questions to the students, 2-ensure that they are utilizing the recall of previously learned material, 3-verify that all students are actively participating in discussions, 4-exercise the reciprocal teaching concept with the students and have the coach observe or look for any other items that the teacher may feel is being left out, weak with, or just concerned. Most principals do not have the time to specifically work on these detailed areas of instruction with each teacher.
