Community Notice
Shoshoni Lights On! is funded primarily through the 21st
Century Community Learning Center grant from the Wyoming Department of
Education. This funding expires December 31, 2009. We are in the process of
looking for other funding sources to continue to keep the Lights On in Shoshoni
after this time period.
There are several things going on at this time regarding after
school programs and the importance of such programs to families and
communities. We have submitted a proposal to Hamburger Helper’s My Hometown
Helper program. They have graciously posted our proposal on their web site, http://www.myhometownhelper.com/ViewProject.aspx?tell=2&id=35548
. We
need your comments of support to let Hamburger Helper know that you feel this
project is important.
Also, there is a proposal through President Bush to cut current
funding for after school programs and grants such as 21st Century
Community Learning Center. The current proposal would cut funding by 30
percent. This means that 1400 less students in Wyoming would be served. This
would have a serious impact on small programs such as this one in Shoshoni. We
urge you to contact our Senators and Representatives both state and federally
to let them know that you want more funding for after school programs, not
less.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Thank
you to the Office Shop for donating some materials that can be used in upcoming
craft projects.
Thank you to all those community programs who are supporting the
current recycling program that has recently started in Shoshoni.
And of course we can not forget all the
parents, kids and many supporters of our program. You are the reason that this program is
successful and why it is so much fun coming to work.
